Community of co-heirs (Erbengemeinschaft)

Upon an individual’s death, his or her assets (the "estate") pass as in whole or in part to one or more individuals who are referred to as "heirs" (principle of universal succession). See § 1922  German Civil Code (BGB). If there is more than one heir, there is a community of co-heirs and the co-heirs jointly administer the estate. See § 2032 sec 2 BGB.
