foundation (Stiftung)

A German foundation (Stiftung) is characterised by having a permanent object (Zweck) and a need to have endowment property (Stiftungsvermögen). It can be established both as legal entity and as a sheltered foundation (Treuhandstiftung). It may pursue private (e.g. family foundation) or public benefit purposes in th meaning of § 52 AO (e.g. charitable or religious purposes).
