Class Legacy (Gattungsvermächtnis)

Pursuant to § 2155 of the German Civil Code (BGB), the testator may make a bequest (Vermächtnis) of an asset of a specific class (Gattung). In this case, the bequest must be adequate in view of the beneficiary`s financial and personal situation. The testator may order that another person shall specify the legacy. in this case § 2154 BGB (power of appointment) applies.
