Health care proxy (Vorsorgevollmacht)

In order to avoid that the German court of protection (Betreuungsgericht) appoints a custodian (Betreuer), a person of full age may grant somebody else a health care proxy (Vorsorgevollmacht). To achieve this, the attorney generally has broad powers. In many cases, the health care proxy is combined with a general power of attorney (Generalvollmacht). The living will must be distinguished from the health care proxy.
