Registered civil law partnership (eGbR)

A German registered civil law partnership (eGbR) is a special form of the civil law partnership (GbR). While a GbR does not need to be entered into a public register, the eGbR is characterized by its registration in a special register, the Civil Law Partnership Register (Gesellschaftsregister). Upon the death of a partner, an eGBR (unlike a not-registered GbR) is continued with the remaining partners, and the heirs (Erben) of the deceased partner are entitled to compensation unless otherwise agreed in the partnership agreement. It can be agreed in the partnership agreement that the heir or another person steps in for the decedent.
