Domicile

Domicile is established by physical presence in a place in connection with a certain state of mind concerning one's intent to remain there. One acquires a domicile of origin at birth, and that domicile continues until a new one (a domicile of choice) is acquired. The concept of domicile does not exist in German civil law. Instead, a German court will determine the applicable law for deaths occurring on or after August 17, 2015 under the European Succession Regulation.
